Our Mission

Mission, values and beliefs

The mission of the Boyle Street Community Services is to build and provide community support for people with multiple barriers to community inclusion.

Organizational values and beliefs that guide our programs and services are:

  1. Each member of the community is deserving of a full measure of acceptance, respect, dignity, and support.
  2. Each person has strengths, abilities, and capacities with which to meet personal needs and contribute to the community.
  3. Opportunities for growth must be relevant, accessible, and appropriately resourced.
  4. Interventions must value human interdependence and respect people’s desires, rights, and responsibilities to control their lives.
  5. Society has a collective responsibility to ensure all people are able meet basic needs and participate in community life.

The following operating principles provide the practice framework for Boyle Street Community Services programs and services:

  1. Respect for self and others are key ingredients in a healthy life.
  2. Everyone who comes into contact Boyle Street will be treated respectfully and will be expected to treat others that way.
  3. All behaviour is functional because it is intended to meet a need. Our job is to help people identify their needs and find positive ways to meet them.
  4. People are doing the best they can with the resources they have.
  5. Our job is to help people get more resources (i.e. knowledge, skills, tools, support systems) when they want things to be better.
  6. No one can do it alone. Our job is to help people build support systems and work together as community members.
  7. All people have strengths that will help them take control of their own lives. Our job is to help people identify, build and share these strengths.
  8. Success breeds success.
  9. Our job is to help people succeed. This includes setting realistic goals, building skills and making sure people have the resources and personal and community supports they need to succeed.
  10. When people feel in control of their lives, they are healthier. In our work, we must support people in taking control of their lives by helping them solve their own problems, make decisions, and take action toward their own goals.
  11. People need a supportive and safe environment. This is achieved through a range of activities, from creating an accepting environment at our Community Centre, through fostering caring communities and seeking social and economic policies that support well being.
  12. People need opportunities that are relevant and accessible. We work with people to deal with the issues they face today and provides opportunities to experience alternatives.
