The Team: Innercity Recreation and Wellness

Inner-City Recreation & Wellness organizes a wide variety of wellness programming all over the city, the Pet Food Bank was started by volunteers in 2013 and is still going strong supporting animal lovers to keep their pets healthy by providing pet food, supplies and information.

Purpose: To help Edmontonians keep their pets well fed and happy! We also provide information to pet owners about resources available to them in the city, like low cost or free veterinary services and animal shelters. This program is under the umbrella of Inner-city Recreation and Wellness but has been volunteer powered from the start. The Pet Food Bank has a number of committed volunteers who are excited to expand the team to provide services to the community.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Set up and tear down of Pet Food Bank (when outside in the courtyard)

  • Keep supplies tidy and organized

  • Portion pet food

  • Hand out pet food and supplies

  • Record data on pet food being handed out

  • Follow all health and safety protocols

Training/Support Provided:

Training and support will be provided on the job by Inner-City Recreation & Wellness and fellow volunteers


  • General customer service skills

  • Must be 18+ years of age or have a co-applicant willing to volunteer alongside you

  • Appreciates petting a cute dog

  • Well organized

  • Able to carry medium-sized bags of pet food

  • Excited to become a part of the Boyle Street community

  • Ready to demonstrate patience, kindness and understanding in your interactions with others

  • Comfortable in a fast paced, occasionally chaotic environment

  • Must complete a criminal record check


  • Boyle Street Community Services Drop-In Centre 10116 105 Ave NW Time Commitment One shift per week for a minimum of three months

Wednesdays 9:30 am – 3 pm
