Health Services
Our Health Services team consists of outreach and support workers, nurses and recovery coaches. They meet people where they're at and provide education, vaccinations, STBBI testing, referrals and emergency response.
Streetworks
Streetworks began in 1989 in response to the needs of the HIV/Aids crisis. It started with a couple of outreach workers and has since grown into a department of Boyle Street Community Services that now has 30+ staff consisting of outreach/support workers, nurses, and recovery coaches. We primarily work with those most vulnerable that use substances and work in the sex trade.
*Operated out of okimaw peyesew kamik Mon-Fri 9am-4pm *Meets the needs of community by doing health education, harm reduction supplies, wound care, immunizations/vaccinations, advocacy, referrals, STBBI testing, emergency response, ect *STBBI testing and treatment outreach – providing services at shelters, body rub centers, housing sites, ect *Peer Navigators – works with clients on navigating detox and treatment options, assists in transportation to appointments and intake, provides education on opioid antagonist therapies *Training and education on drug poisoning prevention and response. How to use Naloxone and what to do when you witness a drug poisoning. Training/educating approximately 3000 people every year *H.E.R Team – supports most vulnerable people who are pregnant up to 6 months post-partum. Helps with housing, pre-natal care, financial stability, parenting skills, advocacy, transportation, ect *Health For Two Team –partnered with over 60 community agencies. Supports people who are pregnant up to 2 months post partum. Offers education on pregnancy, birth, parenting and baby care, support and referrals to community supports, resources such as groceries, transportation, pre-natal vitamins, ect. *Partner sites with a Streetworks nurse providing medical assistance, emergency response, STBBI testing/treatment, ect *Outreach van – delivers harm reduction supplies - operates 7 days/week by clients calling 780-990-6641. Hours: Sun, Mon, Wed, Fri, Sat 7:30pm-11:30pm Tues/Thurs 1:30pm-3:30pm

Streetworks operates out of okimaw peyesew kamik Monday to Friday from 9 am to 4 pm. Services include harm reduction supplies, health education, wound care, immunizations, STBBI testing and treatment, emergency response, advocacy and referrals.
Streetworks also provides health services through outreach and partner sites across the community. Peer Navigators help people access detox and treatment options, while the H.E.R. Team and Health for Two Team provide specialized support during pregnancy and postpartum.
Streetworks provides drug poisoning prevention and response education, including naloxone training, to approximately 3,000 people each year.

Healthy, Empowered Resilient
H.E.R
The H.E.R. program provides pregnancy and postpartum support from pregnancy through six months postpartum. The program works with people who may be experiencing houselessness, substance use, involvement in the sex trade, Children’s Services involvement, or other complex circumstances.
H.E.R. is a voluntary program. Participants choose whether they want to work with the team and what they need support with.
Using a harm reduction approach, H.E.R. works with participants on their self-identified goals. Support can include referrals to housing, parenting and medical resources, prenatal vitamins, food security, some baby supplies, and connections to community services.
H.E.R. hosts a weekly drop-in at okimaw peyesew kamik (King Thunderbird Centre) every Wednesday from 1:30PM – 3:30PM, with food, education, and additional supports available.
The H.E.R. team includes three support workers, two nurses, and a program manager.
No appointment is required. Staff can complete an intake during drop-in to determine program eligibility. A pregnancy test is required to confirm pregnancy.
Street Outreach
The street outreach team provides a compassionate person-centered approach and supports people experiencing homelessness who are living rough in the Edmonton parks, river valley and parkland areas. The goal of the Street Outreach team is to build trust, reduce barriers, and connect people with services and support they need to improve their well-being.
When onoutreach walks the team carries backpacks equipped with necessities such as water, snacks, socks, underwear, hygiene items, and harm reduction supplies.
